On Tour
I’ll be tasting almost EVERY WINE produced in Prince Edward County this weekend. What are your plans? Look for reports starting the end of next week.
Ask Joe
Toronto Readers: If you live anywhere close to the big LCBO on the Kingsway (2946 Bloor West) I highly recommend getting to know the product consultant, Joe Gentile. He’s a no bullsh*t guy who keeps it simple and helpful.
His email is joe.gentile@lcbo.com
P.S. Speaking of bullsh*t how about this wine description in The Wine Spectator: “a supple rich palate of dark cherry, mulled currant and blackberry fruit, all pushed by nicely integrated, loam and grilled herb-tinged finish”.
New Brunswick Beer eh!
Beer and wine are good mates. At least I think so.
A few good gulps of beer settles your thirst so you don’t go wild with the wine. Becks, Warsteiner and Steamwhistle, all lagers, are some of my hot weather beers but as we head into fall I’ll be switching to the more nourishing character of English-style ales. Maybe Pump House Red Ale. This New Brunswick brewery was voted brewery of the year in 2005 and I really like the malty, tangy, fall day-feeling of the Red Ale. It’s new at LCBOs along with Pump House Blueberry Ale which is a bit plain. If you’re reading this in Moncton please visit the brewery and check out the Thai Wheat – brewed with ginger and lemongrass!
