London’s Dazzling Lights & Espresso

LONDONLONDON’S DAZZLING LIGHT SHOW & GREAT COFFEE
London (Ontario!) has been making the news this month for its record snow falls. But let me tell you about a couple of other attractions. The Christmas light show in Victoria Park is awesome! Magical!

And one of my best espressos of the year was The Fire Roasted Coffee Company (located in the Confederation Building of the Western Fairgrounds). Which is also home to the Saturday Farmers Market. Way more fun than the Malls. www.fireroastedcoffee.com

Thanks to all the London folks who showed up for my book signing at Jill’s Kitchen Store. It’s perfect place to pick-up party supplies or gifts for the food lover. Or just a few naughty paper napkins.

On the Espresso Trail

IMG_9672Independent coffee bars are popping up all over the city. A good thing for sure. My latest ‘good espresso’ discovery was at Scratch, a neighbourhood, family spot that supplements coffee trade with handmade children’s clothing. Modern meets hippy – everyone is happy. Lovely long communal table, brick wall, local art. etc . . . and most importantly an Elektra machine.

The Espresso Trail

If you’re a regular reader you know my fondness for espresso. I was at Crosstown car wash (behind the Fina station at Bathurst and St. Clair) and was served a free espresso while waiting. Great service! And a great wash. Maybe the espresso wasn’t the best, but the price was right.

An espresso tip: If you like to ‘shoot it’ the tiny cup is perfect but if you’re a  ‘sippper’ the experience is more flavourful from a wider, regular coffee cup. You get a better mix of the bitter and the creamy part – just like a Guinness. Try it and let me know what you think.

The Espresso Trail

gigiBikeMy search for great espresso continues. Bloor and Ossington is not the prettiest or hippest part of Toronto but Dell (Southern Accent’s friendliest waiter in the world) told me to check out Gigi’s. I’m usually nervous when someone say “it’s your kind of place” but I trust Dell and Gigi’s is a little gem. Rustic, sort of modern hippy with a personal statement in furnishing and flavour. The serve really good sandwiches and A1 espresso. Thanks Dell.
