Best Wine List Discovery

Some places get awards for wine lists as bulky as the phone book, but I prefer to see content, a friendly layout and some creativity. Buchanan’s Chop House & Whiskey Bar in Calgary not only does well in all these categories but adds humour too. Wine and category descriptions are wonderfully amusing and accurate. Cave Spring Reserve Riesling is described as being ‘Probably the only reason to keep Ontario in our glorious Dominion.’ Check out the winelist at www.buchanans.ca

The Wine Bar Rocks!

WIneBarLogoLast night the WINE BAR celebrated their grand opening – and the house was rockin.

This well-seasoned (no pun intended) team has elevated the former Jamie Kennedy Wine Bar by injecting a vibrant, friendly and fun atmosphere. The food – prepared under the watchful eye of Scott Vivian – is absolutely delicious, and  honours local farmers and food artisans. Small affordable plates encourage grazing – and change daily. There’s lots of wine picks to play with too. Be sure to save room for the delectable desserts conjured up by pastry chef and co-owner Rachelle (Cadwell) Vivian. Open for LUNCH and DINNER – 7 days a week until midnight.

Check out Hank’s too – located next door. It’s a casual down-to-earth café during the day – and a potential hot bôite at night for cocktails and private bashes. Same great kitchen, same good attitude.

What is Bistro?

BISTRO: ‘A place that is informal, animated and friendly. Where hearty helpings of unfussy good with big flavours are served on heavy white china plates along with chewy bread and unpretentious wines.’

THANKS to About Thyme Bistro in Vineland for this description. Did they miss anything? Do you know a place that meets ALL these requirements? I’m not sure if I do, except for a few Italian restaurants.
