Hotel Liberdade in Lisbon

Oops! Just found out that we had promoted the wrong hotel in Lisbon! We are in fact, staying at a wonderful heritage hotel in the heart of Lisbon called Hotel Liberdade…slightly more hip and upscale than Hotel Britania. Couldn’t be a better location, and a beautiful mix of elegance and modern against a historic backdrop.

I might have mentioned this before, but for our tours we don’t like to compromise on accommodation, even if it means offering our tours at a cheaper rate. We spend a lot of time sourcing for ‘our style’ and what we think is the BEST. There’s something beautiful having real, even rustic experiences during the day (“Billy style”) and then coming home to luxury. The other thing we are committed to is not to move you around, so you’re unpacking and packing the whole time. We like to have a place that we can call HOME, and this one will be terrific!

Our trip to Lisbon is a GO and we’re VERY excited! For more info about the tour, click here.

Here’s a few pictures – and the website for the hotel is http://www.heritage.pt/heritage_av_liberdade.html

Loving This Languedoc!

Just had a bottle of the new vintage of Laurent Miquel’s Languedoc red and loved every drop. It’s a Grenache/Syrah blend with bright flavours, some richness and wonderful drinkability. Very bistro-ish, and not a lot different than all my favourite Cotes du Rhones.

P.S. Miquel’s non-oaked Chardonnay is in my LCBO’s top-ten list. Refreshment with French flair. Get both.

Winter Wine Camp

Excited to be hosting my WINTER WINE CAMP this weekend at the Claramount Inn in Prince Edward County.  For the lucky 14 participants, we have some amazing events lined up, and some incredible dinners. Plus our own clubhouse!

A special barrel tasting at Closson Chase, a fun and creative wine and art tasting at Oeno Gallery….plus Dan Sullivan from Rosehall Run at dinner tonight (who just won best Pinot award for a show in California). I’ve spent the last month rounding up Pinot Noirs and Cab Francs from many producers here, so we’ll be having post dinner tastings in the clubhouse both nights. And did I mention a vodka tasting from the County’s newest member…66 Gilead Distillery? Yeah baby. Bring it on. It’s going to be a wonderful weekend! Hope yours is half as good!

Cheers.

Stratford Lends a Hand

For those of you in Stratford, please support the HAMSTEAD FUNDRAISER on Saturday February 25th. Lots of musicians, cash bar, food and auction for $25. Help the families and victims involved in that terrible crash….so tragic. Kudos to Susan at Down the Street Bar and Restaurant, and Stewart Reynolds for making this happen. If you can’t make it, donate!

Wine For Your Sweetie

There are two rules to follow in selecting wine for your Valentine – it should be pink and it should be sparkling. Peller’s Ice Cuvée not only fits the bill but the splash of Ice Wine in the blend adds a sweet kiss to the experience. It’s perfect.

PELLER ESTATES Ice Cuvée Rosé, VQA Niagara 113035 $35.20
